When people think of comic conventions in the UK, London often comes to mind first. Its sheer size and reputation have cemented it as a must-see destination for fans of pop culture, fantasy, comics, and television. But this weekend proved that another city deserves equal recognition. On Saturday, September 27, 2025, Comic Con Telford transformed into a vibrant hub of fandom, creativity, and community. And for us at Fandom Frontiers, making the four-hour drive there and back was more than worth it—it was one of the most memorable convention experiences we’ve ever had.

From the moment we arrived, it was clear Telford Comic Con had hit its stride. The halls buzzed with life, laughter, and excitement. Everywhere we looked, fans were lined up for panels, shopping stalls, and autograph sessions. And of course, cosplay was on full display—Star Wars stormtroopers brushed shoulders with characters from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, anime heroes stood side by side with superheroes, and the energy was infectious. Comic Con has always been about community as much as it is about celebrity appearances or merchandise, and Telford absolutely captured that magic.

Meeting the Stars

One of the highlights of the day was meeting Kat Graham, best known for her role as Bonnie Bennett in The Vampire Diaries. Kat exuded warmth and generosity, taking time with every fan who lined up to meet her. She didn’t just sign autographs and pose for photos—she listened, laughed, and made each interaction feel personal. Watching her dedicate extra time to fans was heartwarming, and it reminded us why conventions like these matter: they break down barriers between stars and their audiences.

Not long after, we had the chance to meet David Boreanaz, a name that needs no introduction for fans of cult TV. From his iconic role as Angel in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel to his long-running performance in Bones, David has been a cornerstone of television for decades. Meeting him in person was surreal. He was gracious, funny, and clearly appreciative of the love from fans who had followed his career across genres and generations.

And then, a personal dream was realized: we finally met Charisma Carpenter, beloved for her role as Cordelia Chase in Buffy and Angel. Charisma radiated kindness and charm, and her conversations with fans felt genuine and heartfelt. For so many of us who grew up watching her on screen, seeing her in person was a moment of connection that will stay with us for years.

Panels, Wrestling, and Live Energy

Of course, Comic Con isn’t just about meet-and-greets. The live programming was spectacular this year. One of the standout features was the celebrity Q&A panels, where actors shared behind-the-scenes stories, answered fan questions, and brought beloved shows to life once again through their anecdotes. Among the stars gracing the stage was Selma Blair, who lit up the room with her humor and candor. The intimacy of the panels made them feel less like formal events and more like conversations among friends.

Adding an unexpected twist to the convention was the live wrestling, which ran all day and brought its own brand of spectacle and energy. The cheers from the crowd echoed across the venue, proving that fandom isn’t confined to one genre. Whether you came for superheroes, sci-fi, fantasy, or sports entertainment, Telford Comic Con had something to captivate you.

The Displays That Stole the Show

Beyond the celebrities and panels, the exhibits themselves were breath-taking. The Pop Cars were a particular highlight, bridging the gap between nostalgia and awe. Standing in front of the iconic vehicles from Jurassic Park transported us right into Spielberg’s world of dinosaurs and danger. Equally surprising was seeing cars from The Bill, a reminder of how British pop culture has its own timeless icons. These displays weren’t just photo opportunities—they were love letters to the shows and films that shaped us.

Shopping Wonderland

No convention would be complete without a marketplace, and Telford’s did not disappoint. The pop-up shops offered everything from the quirky to the extraordinary. We found ourselves marveling at Pokémon terrariums, intricately designed and glowing with nostalgia. We browsed custom handbags that were both practical and works of art. And perhaps most striking were the 3D-printed busts of celebrities and characters, which combined cutting-edge technology with pure fan devotion. Each stall felt like a treasure trove, and walking through them was an adventure in itself.

A Community Experience

One of the greatest joys of Comic Con is the sense of community. Everyone—from first-time visitors to lifelong superfans—was welcomed with open arms. Conversations sparked between strangers in line, and friendships were formed over shared loves of fandoms. There’s something special about being surrounded by people who understand why you care so deeply about a particular show, film, or character. It’s an instant bond, and Telford amplified that feeling beautifully.

The Little Things That Matter

Sometimes, it’s the small details that make an event shine. Lunch, for example, was unexpectedly delightful. The café inside the venue was clean, well-seated, and surprisingly efficient despite the crowds. The chips were crisp and golden—comfort food that hit the spot in the middle of a busy day. It may sound like a minor detail, but when you’re navigating a convention from morning to evening, a good meal in a pleasant space can make all the difference

Comic Con Telford vs. London

It’s easy to fall into the habit of comparing conventions, and London Comic Con has long been the standard. But what Telford has shown is that a smaller city can deliver just as much—if not more—when it comes to heart, energy, and atmosphere. The scale was impressive, the programming was diverse, and the community spirit was unmatched. For those who might dismiss Telford as a “second-tier” event, think again. It stands proudly alongside the best of them.

Final Reflections

As we drove the four hours  home, tired but buzzing with excitement, we couldn’t help but reflect on just how special the day had been. From celebrity encounters to unforgettable displays, from cosplay creativity to live wrestling thrills, Comic Con Telford delivered an experience that celebrated every corner of fandom. It wasn’t just about seeing famous faces or buying collectibles—it was about being part of something bigger, something that connects people through joy, imagination, and passion.

In the end, that’s what fandom is all about. It’s about community, creativity, and celebrating the things that inspire us. Telford captured all of that and more, and we at Fandom Frontiers are grateful we made the journey. If this year is any indication, Comic Con Telford is not just an event to attend—it’s an experience to treasure.
